We put a small gateway on your home internet and pair it with a GL.iNet travel router you carry. Wherever you land, your laptop and your phone come out on your own home connection, on the same residential address your bank has been seeing for years.

Accounts rarely get frozen because of the country you are in. They get frozen because of where the traffic arrives from, and a commercial VPN exit is one of the worst addresses you can arrive from.

Why The Bank Locks The Account In The First Place

The bank is scoring the connection, not you. Every sign in carries an IP address, and that address belongs to a network that already has a reputation attached to it. Commercial VPN servers sit in datacenter ranges that also carry a heavy share of card testing and account takeover attempts, so a login arriving from a VPN exit can score worse than a login from a hotel lobby in a country you have never visited.

Then there is the jumping. Monday from Lisbon, Tuesday from Frankfurt because the app picked a faster server on its own, Wednesday back to Lisbon again. A fraud system reads that as one account being used from several places at once, and it answers with a step up check, which is usually a code sent to a number sitting in a drawer at home with no roaming on it.

A residential line that has been yours for years is the quietest thing you can hand them. Same ISP, same city, same address range, month after month, and your travel stays invisible to the part of the system that decides whether anything gets frozen. That is what this setup buys, and it is why it works in places where paying for a bigger VPN subscription does not.

This is your own account reached over your own home line, which is exactly what a bank expects to see. It is not a way around identity checks, and if they ask you to confirm where you live, tell them the truth.

How The Setup Works

A Gateway Goes On Your Home Internet

A small box sits behind the router at your house and runs a WireGuard server. It draws about as much power as a phone charger and it is the piece that owns your residential address. Home IP addresses change on their own schedule, so it also runs dynamic DNS, which means the travel router can still find its way back after your ISP shuffles the address at three in the morning.

The Travel Router Joins Whatever Network You Land On

Hotel, apartment, cafe, a phone hotspot, an airport lounge. The GL.iNet router connects to it the way a laptop would and clears the captive portal once by cloning the MAC address of the device that logged in. Then it brings the tunnel up to your house. You deal with that hotel login screen a single time instead of once per device, which sounds like a small thing until you have done it in four cities.

Your Devices Only Ever See Your Own Network

Laptop, phone, tablet, work machine, whatever else you travel with. They join the travel router instead of the local WiFi, so the network name and the password stay identical in every country and everything reconnects on its own when you walk back into the room. Nothing you own touches the shared hotel network directly, which quietly removes the other half of the problem, the strangers sitting on it.

Everything Exits At Home

Your bank, your tax portal, your payroll system, your broker and your streaming account all see a connection arriving from your own ISP in your own city, on an address with years of history behind it. There is nothing in the path that says hotel, datacenter or VPN provider, because there is no VPN provider in the path.

Carrier Grade NAT At Your House

Plenty of ISPs stopped giving each customer their own public address, and where that is the case nothing from outside can reach your house at all. The usual fix is asking your ISP for a public IP, which is free on some plans and a couple of dollars a month on others. Where they refuse, we route over IPv6 or put a small relay in front of the tunnel, which adds a few dollars a month and one more piece to keep alive.

Your Home Upload Speed Is The Ceiling

Whatever your house can send is the fastest you can receive abroad. A 40 Mbps upload at home means roughly 40 Mbps in your hotel room on a good night, no matter which router you bought. Symmetric fibre makes this a non issue. An older cable or DSL line sitting at 10 Mbps upload will feel tight the moment you try to move a large file.

Distance Adds Latency

Traffic goes to your house first and then out to wherever it was headed, so from Bali to a line in Manchester you are adding real round trip time to every request. Banking, email, portals, document work and video streaming do not care. Competitive gaming and long calls do, which is why we leave a second profile on the router that skips the tunnel when you want the local connection instead.

Power Cuts While The House Is Empty

If the electricity or the broadband drops at home, your tunnel drops with it, and there is no one standing there to restart anything. A smart plug on the gateway handles most of it, since a remote power cycle brings the box back on its own. In the meantime the travel router keeps working as an ordinary router, so you are online, just not on your home address.

Streaming Terms Are Your Call

Banks, tax portals, brokers and payroll systems are your own accounts reached over your own line, which is the whole point of the setup. Some media services still write their terms to restrict watching from outside the billing country whatever route you take to get there, and we are not going to tell you those terms say something they do not.

We check your home line before quoting. It takes a few minutes and it tells us whether your ISP hands out a public address, what your real upload speed is, and whether the router you already own can host the server end. If the answer is that this will not work well at your house, we say so then, not after you have bought hardware.
